Supporting the Church by giving them God’s Word
Wycliffe Bible Translators was founded in 1942 by William Cameron Townsend. “Uncle Cam” as he came to be known by his Wycliffe family, had been working with minority Indian languages in South America. It soon became apparent that using scripture in the national language was ineffective. Townsend’s vision was that every man, woman and child should be able to read God’s Word in their own language.

The remaining need is great. There are 6,912 recognized languages in the world. These people groups range from a population of less than a hundred to several million. Of these, there are 2,251 that need translation. In response to the work still to be done, Wycliffe has implemented Vision 2025 – To see a translation project started in every language that needs it by the year 2025.

This is a humanly impossible goal, yet it can be realized if we work under God’s direction in worldwide partnership with others. Building stronger partnerships with other organizations maximizes consultant and training opportunities, increases the available resources, and uses those resources more effectively.
